As summer winds down and the shadows become longer, there are still many reasons to celebrate the season’s transition and transformation.
For almost a decade now, I have been a fan of Il Palagio, the Tuscan home and winery of Sting and his beautiful wife, Trudie. I have watched, admired and learned so much from the transformation of a neglected hillside winery in Tuscany. There is Life once more in a place that had almost been forgotten.
This past weekend, with my son newly permitted to drive, we set out on an adventure of collecting wine, meandering through our local Farmer’s Market, and connecting with friends new and old along the way. It was time to find inspiration in the simplest and purest of ways: Time well spent with my teenage son, creating adventure out of thin air, and making memories to carry us through.
After spending a little time on Google Search, I located the bottle of wine I was looking for. Roxanne! And it was within an hour’s drive from where I live! There is definitely one thing about me that many people don’t know; I really don’t mind how far I have to go to procure interesting and special food and wine products!
Of course after all of this driving and running around, we had certainly worked up an appetite.
Time to go home and create a little Magic in my kitchen!
I served the lamb chops with a beautiful organic salad of avocados, tomatoes and blue cheese, dressed with freshly squeezed lemon juice and olive oil. Roasted baby Yukon potatoes and a delicious caponata, made with eggplant, zucchini and roasted Hatch Chiles rounded out the meal. For dessert; sliced strawberries, plain Greek yogurt and a drizzle of orange blossom honey. Il Palagio’s Roxanne did not disappoint! A versatile and intense wine with flavors of spice and cherries, it paired beautifully with the meat and cave blue cheese accompanying the tomatoes and avocados. Simply the perfect way to end a wonderful weekend.
Inspiration can be found everywhere and in the most simplest of things. You never know who or what will bring it to you. Just keep yourself open to it ALL!
